Greener repair, done properly.

Stanways Autobodies is an independent accident repair centre in Lytham St Annes. The workshop was established in 1974 and has been family owned and run since 2017. We repair cars, vans and commercial vehicles for UK motor insurers and for private customers, working to BS10125 with zero non-conformances in 2024, 2025 and 2026. We are Hyundai manufacturer approved, we have a structural aluminium bay, and collection and delivery is free within 40 miles.

Silver Award Winner at the Greener Bodyshop Awards 2026. Here is what sits behind the grade: the paint, the curing, the gun wash, the parts and the waste.

In practice

What we actually do, not what we say.

Greener repair is a set of decisions made on every job, in the order they come up. These are ours.

Repair over replace
A repaired panel keeps the original steel out of the scrap stream and avoids making and shipping a new one. Our technicians are trained in repair-first methods and we repair wherever the manufacturer method allows.
Water-based paint
Basecoat is water-based, which cuts the solvent released on every refinish compared with older systems.
UV curing
On fast-track jobs, primer and paint are cured with UV lamps in minutes instead of a full oven bake, so less energy goes into each repair.
Closed-loop gun wash
Spray gun cleaning solvent and water-based thinners are cleaned and reused on site rather than drained to waste. The paint itself is not recycled; the cleaning fluid is.
Recycled and green parts
Where it is safe, appropriate and agreed with you or your insurer, graded recycled parts are used instead of new, sourced through specialist suppliers.
Waste, segregated
Cardboard, metal, aluminium and bumpers are separated and recycled. Plastics go to a specialist plastics recycler rather than landfill.
The standard

ARIES. Measured, with targets.

ARIES is the Accident Repair Industry Environmental Standard, used by insurers and work providers to assess the environmental performance of bodyshops. Stanways holds the ARIES maturity certificate and works to a carbon reduction plan with a 2025 base year and reduction targets of five per cent a year to 2030.

In September 2026 the business was awarded Silver in the graded Greener Bodyshop Award at the NBRA Awards 2026, recognising continued environmental initiatives, and was a finalist in five categories overall.

Honest limits: water is the least developed part of our programme and we say so. Energy, paint, waste and parts are where the measurable progress is.

Common questions

Greener repair, answered.

Does greener mean a lower standard of repair?

No. Every repair follows the manufacturer method and our BS10125 process. Repair over replace only happens where the method allows it.

Do you use recycled paint?

No. What is recycled is the solvent and thinner used to clean the spray guns. Paint is always fresh and matched to your car.

Can I ask for recycled parts?

Yes. Where a graded recycled part is safe and appropriate for the repair, and your insurer agrees if they are paying, we can use one.

Greener, without compromise.
